About this venue

This room is entirely dedicated to music. Belgian music to be precise. Portraits of Belgian musicians line the walls, together with records that you can play on our record player. Lower the needle gently onto the vinyl disc and enjoy that typical, slightly crackling sound. We bought our record collection – including music by Deus, Stromae and Brel, among others - at Caroline, the legendary Brussels record shop opposite the Ancienne Belgique. Feel like playing your own music? You can definitely do so here, at the buffet piano. Everything happens under the watchful eye of Maria Sèthe, the later Mrs. Henry Van de Velde, as portrayed by the impressionist painter Theo Van Rysselberghe in 1891. Sèthe was a talented pianist who is featured here in front of her harmonium. This is a reproduction, the original painting is part of the collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp.
